Fractures Deepen in India Bloc as DMK Breaks Ties with Congress

Posters mocking Rahul Gandhi appeared across New Delhi today, signaling a volatile atmosphere as the INDIA bloc convenes. The campaign highlights past criticisms from key allies, coinciding with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s formal exit from the coalition following Congress’s decision to pivot toward the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.

The posters displayed inflammatory quotes from prominent figures including Sharad Pawar, Mamata Banerjee, and Arvind Kejriwal, effectively weaponizing previous internal disagreements against the Leader of the Opposition. TKS Elangovan, a senior leader for the DMK, confirmed his party’s absence, citing Congress’s perceived unreliability and the abandonment of long-standing electoral partners. Elangovan explicitly warned that other regional players, specifically the Aam Aadmi Party, may soon follow suit in distancing themselves from the alliance.

Despite the visible instability, Congress leadership insists the coalition remains intact. Jairam Ramesh stated that 23 parties are expected to attend the gathering at the Constitution Club to project a unified front. While the participation of figures like Mamata Banerjee and Uddhav Thackeray is confirmed, the strategic shift toward new partners in Tamil Nadu has left the bloc’s internal cohesion in a state of public decline.
