JMM and Congress Forge Rajya Sabha Alliance in Jharkhand

Hemant Soren has secured a seat-sharing pact with Congress for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, opting to divide the two available seats equally between the coalition partners. This strategic compromise aims to solidify the state government's standing ahead of the June 18 vote by prioritizing internal unity over individual ambition.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha initially explored a bid for both seats before shifting focus to a collaborative approach. Party leader Manoj Pandey emphasized that the Chief Minister’s decision to concede one position to Congress serves as a test of coalition integrity. Consequently, JMM has nominated MLA Baidyanath Ram, while Congress will advance party secretary Pranav Jha as its candidate.

The election, set for June 18, represents a critical exercise in political stabilization for the Soren administration. Beyond the immediate selection of candidates, the move functions as a defensive measure intended to consolidate the coalition’s influence and mitigate the impact of external financial maneuvering within the state's electoral process.
