Three hundred former AIADMK members converged on the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam headquarters in Panaiyur this week, signaling a sharp fracture in the opposition’s ranks. The group, which includes former Minister Vellamandi Natarajan and MLA Natraj, abandoned their long-time party citing a persistent failure to deliver meaningful public service.
General Secretary N Anand oversaw the induction ceremony, marking a strategic expansion for the party led by Chief Minister Joseph Vijay. The influx of seasoned political operatives provides a tangible boost to the ruling party’s administrative reach, as the newcomers look to align themselves with a platform that promises a departure from past institutional stagnation.Udumalai Radhakrishnan, a senior figure among the defectors, pointed to a deepening disillusionment within the AIADMK that has festered since the passing of J Jayalalithaa. He identified the TVK’s focus on anti-corruption as the primary draw for those seeking a fresh political trajectory. With this shift, the state’s political landscape faces a potential realignment as the ruling party signals its intention to absorb further disgruntled elements from the opposition in the coming months.
