Asaduddin Owaisi has condemned the West Bengal government for tying essential welfare benefits to voter registration, a practice he argues systematically disenfranchises vulnerable citizens. The AIMIM leader contends that despite the existence of Aadhaar-based authentication, the current policy serves as a tool for exclusion rather than effective verification of eligibility.

The controversy centers on the distribution of PDS rations, which are vital for survival among the state’s impoverished populations. Owaisi challenged the administration’s rationale, suggesting that the link to electoral lists is designed to artificially deflate beneficiary numbers. He maintains that citizens remain entitled to state support regardless of their status on specific voter rolls.

Simultaneously, the political pressure on the Trinamool Congress has intensified from other quarters. Dilip Ghosh, a prominent West Bengal leader, pivoted the discussion toward allegations of systemic corruption within the ruling party. Ghosh claimed that TMC officials have frequently siphoned funds earmarked for public welfare. To address these administrative gaps and resolve ongoing disputes regarding benefit access, he advocated for the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act as a definitive mechanism for clarifying eligibility.
