US Vice President JD Vance has ignited a diplomatic row by framing the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak in Southampton as evidence of a civilizational collapse driven by mass migration, prompting an immediate rebuke from the British government over attempts to interfere in UK domestic affairs.
Vance, writing on X, described the December killing of Nowak by 23-year-old Vickrum Digwa as a tragic indictment of European leadership. He argued that the student’s death resulted from authorities who, in his view, abandoned their duties by succumbing to the politics of self-hatred. Digwa, who initially misled police by claiming he was the victim of racial abuse, has become a focal point for international right-wing criticism regarding British law enforcement. The remarks represent the highest-level intervention from the Trump administration in the matter, following similar criticisms from the US State Department regarding alleged two-tiered policing. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office firmly rejected the commentary, accusing foreign figures of attempting to stir up division on British streets. Officials noted that the victim's own family has explicitly requested that the tragedy not be exploited to fuel further social tension or hatred.
