Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has flatly dismissed the possibility of a meeting between Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and Donald Trump. The rejection follows comments from the US president suggesting a future encounter, a prospect Tehran now characterizes as detached from the grim realities of the ongoing regional conflict.
Araghchi addressed the proposal during an interview with the Al Mayadeen television channel on Thursday, urging observers to remain grounded in the current geopolitical climate. The foreign minister’s comments arrive as the new supreme leader remains largely out of the public eye following his appointment in March, a move officials attribute to heightened security concerns during the war.Mojtaba Khamenei ascended to the position after his father, Ali Khamenei, was killed in US-Israeli strikes on February 28. Araghchi, who was present in the building during the fatal attack, confirmed the new leader maintains full control over state affairs despite his restricted public visibility. While a fragile ceasefire has held since April 8, diplomatic efforts to secure a permanent resolution between Tehran and Washington have yet to yield results.
