He framed the nation’s refusal to bow to external geopolitical pressure as a hallmark of its status as a major democracy, explicitly rejecting Washington’s attempts to steer New Delhi’s alliances.

The Russian President credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with steering a robust economic trajectory, arguing that a nation of India's scale must prioritize its own interests when selecting international partners. He described this policy as a natural evolution for a country that refuses to be sidelined or dictated to by outside powers.

Beyond current diplomatic friction, the remarks served to reinforce a historic bond. Putin traced the relationship back to 1947, noting that the Soviet Union’s early diplomatic recognition of India laid the groundwork for a partnership that has endured significant global shifts.
