Kathrin Wehrli to Lead Valiant as CEO

The Valiant Board of Directors has selected Kathrin Wehrli to steer the bank, tapping the 46-year-old Zurich native to replace outgoing chief Ewald Burgener. Currently overseeing the Corporate and Institutional Clients division, Wehrli will officially assume the role of CEO on May 20, 2027.

Burgener, who has led Valiant since 2019 and served as CFO for six years prior, will transition to a new phase of his career by standing for election to the Board of Directors at the upcoming Annual General Meeting in May 2027. Board Chairman Markus Gygax credited Wehrli’s appointment to her strategic vision and distinct focus on customer needs, positioning her as the ideal leader to sustain the bank's momentum.

Wehrli brings a deep background in finance to the position, with a career spanning leadership roles at major institutions including UBS, Credit Suisse, and Raiffeisen. An economist by training from the University of Lausanne, she has spent her tenure at Valiant driving digitization and transformation initiatives. While her promotion leaves a vacancy in the leadership of the Corporate and Institutional Clients division, the bank confirmed that a successor for that position will be named at a later date.
