Russian Strikes Hit Ukraine as Trump Pushes for Peace Deal

Four people, including an elderly couple in the Kharkiv region, died in a wave of Russian strikes targeting civilian infrastructure and energy grids across Ukraine. The bombardment arrived shortly after US President Donald Trump urged Kyiv to settle with Moscow, heightening the friction surrounding ongoing diplomatic maneuvers.

Russian Strikes Hit Ukraine as Trump Pushes for Peace Deal

Russian forces launched overnight strikes against power facilities in the Kyiv, Volyn, Odesa, and Mykolaiv regions, damaging critical infrastructure ahead of the winter season. The Russian Defence Ministry stated its forces hit an electrical substation supplying Ukraine’s industrial sector and a warehouse complex in Poltava. Beyond the energy grid, drones struck an apartment building in Kyiv, and civilian businesses were targeted in multiple districts, leaving residents in the Poltava, Lviv, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions injured.

These attacks complicate the diplomatic push led by Washington to force a settlement. US special envoy Steve Witkoff traveled to St. Petersburg to meet Vladimir Putin, yet the battlefield reality remains volatile. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has voiced concerns over deteriorating communication with the US, citing a reduction in advance missile warnings and limitations on Starshield satellite systems. As winter demand for heating surges, the destruction of power networks threatens to undermine both civilian survival and the logistical capacity required to sustain the war effort. Any potential peace agreement now faces the hurdle of reconciling Trump's calls for a swift deal with Kyiv's requirement for concrete security guarantees to prevent future aggression.
