Arizona Student Accuses Fraternity Members of Sexual Assault

A University of Arizona sorority member has reported being sexually assaulted by two men at the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house on August 26. The incident, currently under investigation by university police, adds to a mounting wave of sexual violence allegations across U.S. campuses, including recent cases at Cornell and the University of Chicago.

The student told investigators she consumed tequila before losing memory of the event. She recalled witnessing the assault and later woke up with physical signs of distress, including difficulty swallowing. According to search warrant records, she reported the encounter to police the following day and underwent a forensic examination. In a recorded call two days after the incident, one accused man admitted to sexual contact but denied the involvement of a second person, citing his own intoxication as a reason for his fragmented memory.

The university had previously placed the local Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter on probation for hazing violations, though the house is not among the five currently suspended following a broader crackdown on Greek life misconduct. Brian Warren, CEO of the national organization, stated that the fraternity has suspended the individuals involved and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement. As the investigation continues, no arrests have been announced, and the Pima County Attorney's Office has yet to receive the case for potential prosecution.
