European exchange-traded funds pulled in $415.9 billion during the first nine months of the year, eclipsing the previous annual record of $371.7 billion set in 2025. Equity funds remained the primary engine of growth, contributing $29.2 billion in September and $113.9 billion throughout the third quarter. Investors leaned heavily into broadly diversified core equity strategies, which captured $20.6 billion, while sustainability and smart beta products added $3.4 billion and $3.0 billion respectively. Global stock market exposure reclaimed the top spot in regional interest, drawing $12.1 billion, while US equity products slipped to third place. Conversely, Chinese and Canadian equity ETFs faced minor net outflows.

Fixed-income demand shifted toward security, with government bond ETFs attracting $4.0 billion in September, pushing their year-to-date inflows to $35.1 billion. While investors favored US and euro-denominated debt, high-yield bonds saw $461 million in exits. Commodity ETFs delivered the most striking performance, surging to $13.4 billion in third-quarter inflows. This record-breaking volume—an eightfold increase over the prior year—reflects mounting concerns over global energy supplies and sustained price volatility in the commodities sector.
