Founded in 1977 as a small distillery in Treviso, the company underwent a rapid transformation after Sandro took the helm at age 19 following his father Aldo’s passing. Alongside his siblings Barbara and Stefano, he expanded the business into wine production in 1992, eventually securing a presence in over 160 countries. While the gold-coated glass remains the brand’s visual hallmark—achieved through a multi-stage process of metallization and lacquering—the internal quality has increasingly drawn critical praise.
Recent accolades, including gold medals at the 2026 Prosecco Masters, underscore a shift toward upmarket production. Sandro Bottega is now pushing for more diversity on restaurant wine lists, emphasizing the Premium Vintage Collection. These wines utilize horizontal pressure tanks and extended lees contact to build texture, moving beyond the standard profiles of the Glera grape. Tasting trials reveal that even as the wines warm, they maintain a precise, balanced structure, free of the off-notes that often plague lesser bottles. With the Stardust series showcasing longer aging and careful dosage, Bottega is successfully balancing mass-market visibility with the technical rigor demanded by serious enthusiasts.
