Pictet’s Sven Holstenson on Scaling Through Organic Growth

Managing partner Sven Holstenson is steering the 221-year-old Pictet Group toward a 2030 strategy centered on technological integration and private asset expansion. With assets under management climbing to 800 billion francs, the firm maintains its partnership model while shifting its workforce composition to prioritize digital infrastructure and AI-driven client services.

The Pictet Group has effectively doubled its size over the past decade, reaching 810 billion francs in assets under management by June 2026. Unlike many competitors, this expansion has been achieved entirely through organic growth rather than acquisitions. Holstenson attributes this stability to a corporate culture that avoids the integration risks associated with absorbing external entities, allowing the firm to maintain long-term partnerships and a unified IT architecture.

Technological transformation now sits at the core of the bank's operations. With roughly 1,000 engineers—nearly 20 percent of its total staff—Pictet is actively deploying AI agents to automate complex regulatory and document management processes. According to Holstenson, the firm’s strategy for the next five years focuses on three pillars: expanding private asset offerings, strengthening its presence in Asia, and increasing geographical proximity to clients in Europe and the Middle East.

Despite the rise of digital tools, Holstenson maintains that the human element remains the primary driver of wealth management. He identifies the professionalization of family offices and the rise of independent wealth managers as significant market shifts, noting that Pictet is positioning itself as a robust infrastructure partner for these entities. By keeping the partnership model intact, the firm aims to preserve its "skin in the game" philosophy, where partners manage risks alongside their clients, ensuring continuity in an increasingly multipolar global financial landscape.
