The scenes captured on video show local boats navigating through partially submerged containers, with men straining to haul boxes of high-end electronics and French perfume from the sea. While the vessel, sailing under a Singaporean flag, reportedly sank following an onboard fire, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) maintains a different account. According to the IRGC, the ship entered an unauthorized route and struck a sea mine, an incident that underscores the escalating danger for commercial traffic in the area.
This sinking is the third of its kind since the conflict began in late February, marking a sharp increase in the tempo of maritime strikes. As the IRGC warns vessels to avoid the area or follow specific corridors designated by Iranian forces, the geopolitical fallout continues to widen. Tehran has explicitly linked the future of the Strait of Hormuz to the withdrawal of US forces from the region. Brig. Gen. Mohammad Akraminia stated that security in the strait depends entirely on the departure of American troops, framing the current maritime instability as a direct result of Washington’s presence.
