Sisi Prepares Egyptian Parliament for Potential Saudi Military Deployment

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is moving to secure parliamentary authorization for military intervention in Saudi Arabia, framing the potential deployment as a defensive necessity against escalating Houthi strikes. The move follows direct consultations with Saudi leadership regarding the persistent security threats facing the kingdom’s critical infrastructure.

Speaking at a military academy graduation, al-Sisi characterized the stability of the Saudi kingdom as a core Egyptian interest, signaling readiness to act should Riyadh formally request support. The president clarified that while Cairo avoids offensive posturing, the recent drone and missile attacks targeting Riyadh’s international airport and Saudi Aramco facilities have necessitated a shift in contingency planning. Al-Sisi emphasized that any operational deployment would remain strictly coordinated with King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Following the president's public commitment, Egypt's parliament scheduled an emergency plenary session to debate the mandate. While the official agenda remains undisclosed, the session is widely expected to grant the executive branch the legal framework required for cross-border military support. This deepening of security cooperation underscores the enduring strategic alliance between the two nations, a partnership that has served as a cornerstone of Egypt's economic stability since 2013.
