The Ukrainian leader’s warm rhetoric toward Brussels masks a growing unease among European officials regarding his approach to the U.S. administration. Sources familiar with summit preparations confirmed that EU representatives intend to privately urge Zelenskyy to temper his criticism of Trump, fearing that his vocal frustration is becoming counterproductive to securing essential international aid.
This diplomatic tightrope follows a week of operational setbacks, specifically regarding SpaceX’s Starlink service. Serhiy Derkach, Ukraine’s First Deputy Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport, warned that restrictions on the satellite network have hampered defensive capabilities, emboldening Russian strikes against civilian infrastructure. While the Ukrainian president complied with Washington’s request to pause strikes on Russian energy targets, he publicly dismissed the resulting deal as "weak," noting that Moscow has yet to confirm any formal agreement to halt hostilities.
