EIB Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle and JBIC Deputy Governor Toshio Oya formalized the extension of a partnership first established in 2018. The agreement provides a structured framework for joint financing, focusing on the intersection of energy infrastructure and economic security. Oya noted that the shifting international landscape necessitated this renewed focus, particularly regarding the reliability of global supply networks.
The collaboration builds on a solid financial history, with the EIB having signed agreements worth approximately €2.5 billion for projects involving JBIC as of October 2026. Previous joint ventures include the Eavor Loop geothermal project in Germany and the 1.4 GW NeuConnect electricity interconnector between Germany and the United Kingdom. Moving forward, the banks intend to scale these efforts, ensuring that investments in clean energy transitions and connectivity are backed by the resources required for long-term regional development.
