IDB Lab Commits $10 Million to Cometa IV for Latin American Startups

A $10 million injection from IDB Lab into the Cometa IV venture fund aims to scale early-stage technology companies across Latin America and the Caribbean. The capital targets startups focused on financial infrastructure, software-as-a-service, and digital solutions in health and education, bridging critical funding gaps for regional innovators.

Cometa IV intends to deploy these funds across approximately 23 startups, prioritizing business-to-business models that address structural inefficiencies. By targeting ventures at the early development stage, the fund seeks to cultivate businesses capable of expanding their footprint across diverse regional markets. This investment builds on a partnership established in 2021, when IDB Lab previously committed $4 million to the predecessor fund, Cometa III.

Beyond direct financing, IDB Lab will leverage its network to connect Cometa with emerging startup ecosystems and institutional investors. The collaboration also includes technical support to refine how the fund tracks the performance and impact of its portfolio companies. This effort aligns with the broader IDBImpact+ strategy, which emphasizes sustainable economic growth through technology-driven solutions and cross-border collaboration.
