Rajnath Singh Questions Rahul Gandhi’s Electoral Independence

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh challenged Rahul Gandhi to prove his political viability in the Rae Bareli constituency without the backing of the Samajwadi Party. Speaking ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, Singh dismissed Congress claims of widespread public support as fundamentally hollow and unsubstantiated.

Singh’s comments arrived during a press conference where he shifted focus toward internal Congress volatility. He pointed to frequent public disputes among state-level party leaders, noting that these tensions have escalated beyond rhetoric into physical altercations. The Defence Minister questioned whether the Congress leadership would attempt to blame the BJP for their own internal fractures, which he described as a failure of basic trust within their ranks.

Beyond party dynamics, Singh addressed allegations regarding voter list irregularities. He accused Gandhi of spreading misinformation about electoral rolls, specifically highlighting past claims about fake voters that lacked formal legal documentation. According to Singh, the Congress has failed to submit a single official appeal regarding these issues because the party possesses no evidence to support its accusations. He contrasted this with the BJP’s policy of respecting constitutional institutions, asserting that his party maintains a consistent stance of upholding the integrity of the nation’s electoral system.
