Vance condemns influence-peddling amid Guilfoyle departure

“If somebody is selling access to the White House, that is disgusting and despicable,” Vice President JD Vance said Thursday. The remarks followed the forced resignation of US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle, who faces accusations of soliciting a $100,000 payment from a donor seeking administration assistance.

Speaking to CBS News during a Michigan town hall, Vance insisted that allegations must be weighed against concrete evidence rather than media reports. While he pledged compliance with potential future congressional subpoenas, the controversy surrounding Guilfoyle continues to intensify. Guilfoyle, who departed her post at the White House's request, categorically denied the claims, stating she intends to defend her reputation against what she termed false accusations.

President Donald Trump distanced himself from the former diplomat, noting she was not a family member despite her past relationship with his eldest son. The accusations center on reports that Guilfoyle requested a $100,000 payment from donor Eric Deters shortly before her July 2025 confirmation hearing. Meanwhile, ethics disclosures reveal the President earned over $1.4 billion from cryptocurrency ventures in 2025, including $500 million from World Liberty Financial. These figures have reignited scrutiny regarding the intersection of Trump’s private business interests and his official duties, though the President maintains that no conflicts exist.
