Authorities apprehended Paporakis on Sunday after his co-worker contacted police, citing explicit threats the teen had made regarding a "special day" of violence. Investigators believe the suspect targeted the Sri Venkateswara Swami (Balaji) Temple in Aurora, located 40 miles west of Chicago. Security footage confirmed a vehicle registered to Paporakis entered the temple parking lot at 12:25 p.m. before departing shortly thereafter.
Following his arrest, a search of the home Paporakis shared with his mother uncovered an AR-style rifle, tactical body armor, and extremist propaganda. Prosecutors revealed that he authored an eight-page manifesto labeling African American, Jewish, and Indian individuals as "subhumans." Paporakis had reportedly sent a video to his colleague admitting the weapon failure and expressing a desire to repair the rifle to finish the assault. The suspect is currently charged with making a terrorist threat and unlawful possession of a firearm as officials continue to investigate his digital communications.
