The tension escalated Thursday when AAP officials accused Congress of maintaining double standards regarding the government’s enforcement efforts. While Gandhi recently condemned the Mann administration, claiming that opposing drug abuse has become a death sentence in Punjab, AAP countered by questioning why party figures like Pargat Singh appear to undermine police operations against syndicates.
This political friction follows the fatal shooting of Parminder Singh Jhota by a medical shop owner. In response to the outcry, Punjab and Rajasthan police conducted a joint operation to apprehend the primary suspect, identified as Asvini, near the Salasar Balaji Temple. Following the arrest, authorities demolished the suspect's residence under heavy security. The incident sparked public unrest, leading to a state-wide shutdown on Thursday. In Amritsar, protesters blocked key transit routes, causing significant disruption to emergency services and civilian traffic before police intervention restored order.
