Amit Shah pledges total erasure of Naxal legacy in Bastar

Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared the government’s intent to eradicate every lingering trace of Naxalism, shifting the focus from military suppression to the rehabilitation of victims in Chhattisgarh. Addressing a disability aid distribution ceremony, he framed the restoration of Bastar as a humanitarian duty to the tribal communities.

The Home Minister, speaking via video conference during the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan,’ highlighted that decades of insurgency have left deep scars on the region. He specifically condemned the use of Improvised Explosive Devices against civilians as a gross human rights violation. While asserting that the central government has successfully curtailed Naxal activity with a target for total elimination by March 31, 2026, he insisted that the mission remains incomplete without healing the victims.

As part of this rehabilitation effort, the second phase of a disability camp provided prosthetic devices to over 3,600 individuals affected by violence, including 1,570 beneficiaries from Bastar. These efforts, supported by local administration and various social organizations, aim to replace the historical atmosphere of fear with stability. Shah pointed to local initiatives like the Bastar Olympics and cultural programs as evidence that the region is transitioning toward normalcy, allowing youth to engage in sports rather than living under the shadow of gunfire.
