Paporakis drove from his home in Palatine to the Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple on Sunday, intending to target the site during peak devotee hours. When his weapon jammed at the scene, he fled and contacted a coworker, confessing his intent and seeking advice on how to clear the malfunction. That individual immediately notified police, leading to the teenager’s arrest before he could return to the shrine.
During a subsequent search of the suspect’s residence, investigators recovered a modified rifle, 300 rounds of ammunition, body armor, and gasoline canisters. Police also discovered a manifesto in which Paporakis identified himself as the "Aurora Shooter" and detailed a deep-seated hatred toward Jewish people, African Americans, and Indians, while espousing white supremacist ideologies. He currently faces charges of making a terrorist threat and the unlawful possession of a short-barreled rifle.
