Alexandros Paporakis, a Taco Bell cashier, faces charges of making a terrorist threat and unlawful weapon possession. The investigation began after an acquaintance reported that Paporakis had shared a document titled "Why I Fought: A.K.A.: (Aurora shooter's manifesto)," alongside images of firearms and tactical equipment. Palatine Police Chief William Nord stated that the suspect allegedly told coworkers that October 11 would be a "special day" before later claiming his weapon had malfunctioned at the site.
Officers from Palatine and Mount Prospect took Paporakis into custody as he left his home. A subsequent search of his residence yielded a short-barreled rifle, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and a tactical vest adorned with symbols linked to white supremacist extremism. While the FBI continues to review the case for potential additional charges, authorities confirmed no ongoing threat to the public exists at this time.
The Hindu American Foundation commended the swift law enforcement response, noting that the incident underscores the vulnerability of religious institutions. The organization urged community members to maintain vigilance, emphasizing that every group deserves to worship without the fear of violence.
