Chirag Paswan demands accountability for Raghopur boat tragedy

Thirteen children under the age of 15 perished in a boat capsize in Bihar’s Vaishali district, prompting Union Minister Chirag Paswan to demand immediate punitive action against local officials. Paswan, who visited the Raghopur site, cited clear administrative failures regarding safety protocols and unauthorized night operations as the primary causes.

The minister pointed to the blatant disregard for established regulations, noting that boat services are strictly prohibited after sunset. By allowing an excessive number of children to board a single vessel, local oversight collapsed, directly contributing to the disaster. Paswan has tasked the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police with identifying the specific failures that allowed the boat to operate under such hazardous conditions.

Following his visit to the Nalanda Medical College Hospital to console survivors and families, Paswan confirmed he briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation. The incident has drawn sharp criticism toward the local Circle Officer and the Station House Officer for their lack of supervision. In response to the loss, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh for each of the bereaved families.
