The criticism follows the recent dismissal of Akoijam from Jawaharlal Nehru University service on October 9, after an internal committee recommended major penalties following a probe into complaints from 11 female students. Devi accused Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi of hypocrisy, noting the party has yet to issue a show-cause notice or initiate disciplinary proceedings against the MP. Akoijam has denied these allegations, citing procedural lapses and claiming the university violated confidentiality provisions under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act.
Beyond the JNU case, the Union Minister targeted Rahul Gandhi’s personal conduct, referencing claims from journalist Richa Parashar, who alleged she was manhandled by the Congress leader and his security detail during an October 12 protest. Devi characterized these incidents and the wider opposition protests as a deliberate effort to incite chaos. As the Delhi Police investigation continues following an FIR filed at Vasant Kunj North station, a delegation of BJP women MPs and leaders has escalated the matter by submitting a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu, demanding strict accountability for the accused lawmaker and addressing the broader climate of safety for women.
