Amit Shah dismisses opposition claims, citing BJP local poll dominance

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has dismissed opposition criticism of the electoral process, pointing to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s sweeping success in recent local government polls in Rajasthan and Tripura as a definitive rebuke to Congress leadership and a stark lesson for Rahul Gandhi regarding current voter sentiment.

The Home Minister highlighted specific metrics to bolster his argument, noting that the BJP secured 90% of municipal corporations, 66% of municipal councils, and 65% of municipalities in Rajasthan. He further contrasted the performance of the National Democratic Alliance in Tripura, where the coalition claimed roughly 4,000 village committee seats—securing a 77.5% vote share—while Congress managed only 14 victories out of 4,600 contested seats.

These comments arrived shortly after an opposition march toward the Supreme Court regarding alleged irregularities in electoral roll revisions. Simultaneously, Union Minister Piyush Goyal intensified the government's stance, labeling Gandhi a political liability and challenging him to address ten specific questions concerning the integrity of election authorities. The Supreme Court Registry has since identified 14 procedural defects in the writ petition submitted by Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders.
