Amit Shah dismisses Congress relevance after Gujarat local poll sweep

Forty-one years of electoral defeat define the Congress party’s current standing in Gujarat, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Following a dominant performance in local body elections where the BJP secured 90 of 104 available seats, Shah challenged the opposition's relevance and questioned Rahul Gandhi’s political strategy in the state.

The BJP’s latest victory spans three municipalities and municipal corporations, cementing what Shah described as the electorate’s unwavering support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, which falls under Shah’s own constituency, the party clinched 38 out of 44 seats, recording a 10% increase in vote share compared to previous cycles.

Shah reserved his sharpest criticism for the Aam Aadmi Party, noting that the outfit failed to retain its security deposit across all 32 seats it contested. By framing the results as a referendum on national leadership, the Home Minister signaled that the party intends to leverage these local gains to further marginalize the opposition in upcoming political discourse.
