Student Groups Protest in Patna Demanding Election Commission Resignation

Activists from the All India Students' Association and the Revolutionary Youth Association gathered at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan on Tuesday, calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration intensifies the ongoing friction between opposition parties and the Election Commission regarding the special revision of electoral rolls.

This pressure from student groups follows a formal challenge filed by the INDIA bloc in the Supreme Court. Eleven leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, recently petitioned the court to intervene in the Commission’s ongoing electoral roll exercise. The Supreme Court Registry has since identified 14 procedural defects in their submission, complicating the legal path for the opposition.

Parallel to these events, political tensions flared in New Delhi. Delhi Police detained three activists from the Cockroach Janata Party near Jantar Mantar after they attempted to breach security cordons at the restricted site. Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan intensified his rhetoric against the central government, characterizing the current administrative actions as an assault on democratic institutions and the voting rights of citizens.
