Former Punjab Congress president Raja Warring led the criticism, labeling the killing a direct consequence of the government’s ineffective 'Yudh Nashean Virudh' initiative. According to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, Jhota was gunned down while attempting to record drug dealers on camera, a move that supporters claim highlights the unchecked power of the local drug mafia. Sukhbir Badal echoed these concerns, characterizing the administration's anti-drug efforts as mere publicity stunts and condemning what he termed a state of 'jungle raj.'
Beyond the Congress and Akali Dal, BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu challenged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s capacity to manage the Home portfolio, questioning how the state can ensure public safety when its own citizens are being targeted by criminals. In response, AAP leader Baltej Pannu confirmed that a medical shop owner has been implicated in the shooting. He stated that the government condemns the violence and has pledged to pursue strict legal action against those responsible, maintaining that no individual will be permitted to bypass the law.
