Police Detain Activists at Jantar Mantar Following Denotification

Delhi Police took three Cockroach Janata Party activists into custody on Tuesday after they breached a security cordon at Jantar Mantar. The demonstration followed a government order that stripped the historic site of its status as a designated protest venue, sparking immediate pushback from political critics and civil society groups.

Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das, and Ajinkya Shinde were removed by security personnel during the early morning hours. The group had attempted to occupy the site despite the recent administrative shift. Abhijeet Dipke, a prominent voice within the organization, challenged the move on social media, asserting that the spirit of dissent cannot be confined to specific geography.

The official notice, backed by a Ministry of Home Affairs committee, has shifted authorized demonstrations to Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground, and CBD Ground in East Delhi. This decision drew sharp condemnation from Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, who characterized the restriction as a sign of leadership panic. Ramesh argued that the move effectively targets the right to dissent, framing the administration's actions as a broader assault on democratic participation.
