Dilip Ghosh Accuses INDIA Bloc of Intimidating Judiciary

Marching toward the Supreme Court to protest the appointment of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, members of the INDIA bloc have drawn sharp condemnation from West Bengal leader Dilip Ghosh. He characterizes the opposition's actions as a calculated attempt to bully constitutional institutions rather than a genuine defense of democratic norms.

Ghosh leveled his criticism following a Monday demonstration led by Rahul Gandhi, where opposition leaders marched along Barakhamba Road to file a petition against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. According to Ghosh, the move highlights a fundamental hypocrisy within the coalition. He argued that while these leaders claim democracy is collapsing, they simultaneously exploit the very institutions they publicly disparage.

Contrasting the political unrest with the ongoing Durga Puja festivities, Ghosh suggested that the public would ultimately hold the opposition accountable for the disruption. He further pivoted to local tensions in West Bengal, targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her insistence that elections proceed using old voter lists. Ghosh alleged that Banerjee’s preference for existing rolls—paired with her desire for hand-picked police and administrative officers—reveals a strategy to manipulate election outcomes rather than adhere to established constitutional processes.
