Scindia Rebukes Opposition Protest as Attempt to Undermine Democracy

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has dismissed the Opposition’s “Chalo Dilli” protest as a calculated affront to India’s constitutional framework. Speaking from Mizoram, the minister accused the Congress party of hypocrisy, arguing that the group only champions democratic institutions when electoral results align with their political interests.

Scindia Rebukes Opposition Protest as Attempt to Undermine Democracy

Scindia characterized the ongoing demonstrations in New Delhi as an attempt to erode public confidence in the nation's multi-tiered electoral process. He argued that the legitimacy of a government is determined solely by the public at the ballot box, rather than through street-level activism. The minister pointed to the historical imposition of the 1975–1977 Emergency as evidence of the party’s past disregard for constitutional norms, contrasting it with their current rhetoric surrounding the preservation of the state.

The minister further alleged that the Congress habitually disparages the judiciary, the armed forces, and the Election Commission whenever political narratives fail to favor them. He noted that the party accepts victories in states like Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh without hesitation, yet initiates international criticism and legal challenges against the Election Commission following losses. Scindia urged the Opposition to pursue internal reform and align with national development goals instead of obstructing administrative progress.

This criticism coincides with a petition filed in the Supreme Court by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and ten other INDIA bloc members. The petitioners are challenging the Election Commission’s recent decisions regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. They are seeking full disclosure of the commission’s internal agendas, minutes, and access logs to determine if the process adhered to constitutional mandates and established legal precedents.
