The security operation intensified in Swabi district on Sunday, where police moved to block a planned address by former Chief Minister Sohail Afridi at Shewa Adda. Despite attempts by party activists to relocate the gathering to the Razaar Sports Complex, authorities maintained a heavy presence at strategic points, including the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway and the district headquarters at Karnal Sher Khan Chowk. Reports confirm that Sohail Afridi was taken into custody shortly after the emergency decree was finalized.
Kasim Khan, son of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, condemned the federal intervention as a desperate attempt by Army Chief Asim Munir to retain power. He accused the regime of utilizing the pretext of terrorism to justify military operations in Pashtun territories. The federal government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, cited a total collapse in security negotiations and the provincial administration's failure to address regional instability as the basis for invoking Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution.
This administrative restructuring includes the appointment of Dr. Muhammad Fakhr Alam Irfan as the new provincial chief secretary. As the central government tightens its grip, the political climate remains volatile, with PTI leadership demanding the immediate release of all detained members and the restoration of their democratic mandate in the province.
