Congress leader Jairam Ramesh characterized the decision as a hallmark of political insecurity within the central leadership. On social media, Ramesh argued that the move signals an attempt to stifle the democratic process, suggesting that the government's recent handling of peaceful gatherings reflects a broader disregard for public dissent. He dubbed the administration’s strategy as a shift toward what he called "Demokursi," prioritizing power retention over civic engagement.
Activist Abhijeet Dipke echoed these concerns, framing the denotification as a direct assault on the right to protest. Dipke contended that the government’s objective extends beyond site logistics, aiming to dismantle the very culture of public opposition. The transition follows the findings of an MHA-appointed committee tasked with identifying alternative spaces for demonstrations. While the government maintains that the relocation process is procedural, the decision has ignited a sharp debate over the boundaries of democratic expression in the capital.
