The demonstration, marked by the hashtag #ChaloDilli, drew a broad coalition of leaders to Connaught Place. Rahul Gandhi urged citizens to join the movement, framing the march as a necessary defense of constitutional values. The alliance argues that the current election system has been compromised, with Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal characterizing the protests as a significant challenge against the Election Commission’s neutrality. Venugopal alleged that the central government is utilizing the Commission to undermine democratic processes.
Support for the protest spanned several states, featuring prominent figures such as former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD, and Akhilesh Yadav. Tejashwi Yadav reiterated accusations that the Election Commission operates as a proxy for the BJP, citing his party's previous struggles in Bihar as early warnings of electoral manipulation. While the Opposition prepares its legal challenge at the apex court, party members emphasize that the agitation will continue on both political and judicial fronts. Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury added that the march serves to signal to the government that the coalition remains committed to challenging what it views as a systemic disregard for constitutional norms.
