Barricades have transformed the city center, with the Delhi Police, Rapid Action Force, and CRPF deployed in strength near Mandi House and Barakhamba Road. Authorities have ordered the closure of six key metro stations—Patel Chowk, Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, and Barakhamba Road—from 6:00 AM until 4:00 PM to manage the expected crowds.
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi issued a national call for students, civil society groups, and opposition members to join the demonstration. Gandhi framed the march as a defense of democratic rights, citing alleged violence by police and political opponents during previous protests. The bloc intends to submit a memorandum protesting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls and what they term "vote chori."
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor echoed these concerns, alleging that the Election Commission has improperly removed 130 million citizens from voter rolls. While acknowledging the Chief Justice’s refusal to meet, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal stated the opposition respects the judiciary's preference for formal legal filings but remains committed to the street protest. The demonstration marks a significant escalation in the ongoing confrontation between the opposition and the current administration over electoral integrity.
