The opposition delegation, led by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, had sought to submit a memorandum regarding "vote chori" and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. They also demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Following the rejection, the court communicated its position via email, emphasizing that such claims must be adjudicated through standard judicial proceedings.
This standoff follows a weekend of heightened tension in New Delhi, where police detained several activists and protesters. Rahul Gandhi has since called for a march to the Supreme Court on Monday to press these demands. While activist Abhijeet Dipke vowed to return to the streets despite his recent preventive arrest, the ruling BJP dismissed the agitation. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar ridiculed the protests, while Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta defended the police response, accusing the opposition of manufacturing chaos in the capital.
