The Minister’s remarks follow a weekend of heightened tension in the national capital, where mass detentions and security lockdowns disrupted public order. Authorities detained roughly 1,000 individuals, including high-profile political figures such as Arvind Kejriwal, Pinarayi Vijayan, and Mamata Banerjee, as protesters demanded the resignation of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Shekhawat dismissed the unrest as a manufactured crisis, claiming that Opposition leaders are intentionally fostering anarchy to further their personal ambitions.
Addressing allegations that the BJP functions as a mouthpiece for the Election Commission, Shekhawat contended that defending the poll panel against what he termed "politically motivated falsehoods" is a fundamental duty. He argued that shielding constitutional bodies from partisan attacks is necessary to preserve their sanctity. Beyond the national protests, the Minister also targeted former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, labeling his recent criticisms of BJP leader Nitin Nabin as mere political frustration and a failure of personal introspection.
