Elon Musk Escalates War of Words With Mukesh Ambani Over Starlink

Elon Musk has branded arguments from Mukesh Ambani’s supporters as “absurd hypocrisy,” intensifying his campaign to bring Starlink to India. The billionaire tech mogul argues that local opposition to his satellite internet service relies on contradictory claims that the company is simultaneously too weak to compete and too dominant to coexist.

Musk contends that Starlink would expand consumer choice and benefit ordinary citizens, dismissing concerns that his entry would destroy Reliance’s telecom business. “Ambani’s profits will be lower, but he is not going out of business,” Musk wrote on X, asserting that market forces would naturally dictate pricing. He further argued that if his services were overpriced, Indian consumers would simply decline to purchase them, forcing SpaceX to adjust its rates accordingly.

The conflict has moved beyond business strategy, with Musk recently sharing reports alleging links between Reliance-affiliated firms and political donations to India’s ruling party. This follows a series of provocative posts where Musk sarcastically referred to the industrialist as “Prime Minister Ambani,” accusing him of protecting a de facto monopoly. While Reliance has remained silent, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently stated that India’s regulatory framework is technology-agnostic and that three entities, including Starlink, have already secured satellite communication licenses.
