Trivedi specifically challenged the Leader of the Opposition’s assertion that the President validated claims of electoral irregularities during their recent audience. According to the BJP, Gandhi’s public statements following the meeting lacked factual basis and were intended to undermine institutional integrity. Trivedi noted the visible discomfort of other opposition leaders standing alongside Gandhi during his briefing, suggesting that his rhetoric did not reflect the reality of the discussion held inside the presidential estate.
This confrontation follows a high-voltage protest by the INDIA bloc, which included a march to Rashtrapati Bhavan amid heavy security deployments and transit restrictions in the capital. The opposition delegation submitted a memorandum alleging a conspiracy by senior government officials and the Election Commission to compromise the electoral process. Rahul Gandhi claimed he was stunned by the President’s response, alleging she did not deny their accusations but instead requested formal evidence of the reported irregularities. In response, the BJP dismissed these claims as a continuation of a pattern, citing Gandhi's past public apologies regarding statements made about the Supreme Court and his frequent challenges to the Election Commission. Trivedi maintained that the opposition is weaponizing constitutional authorities to serve a specific political agenda.
