Rathore, an AICC spokesperson and MLA from Theog, claimed that internal friction among the three Election Commissioners underscores a deeper crisis within India’s constitutional bodies. He argued that the current process for updating electoral rolls has been manipulated to selectively remove voters perceived as anti-government while inflating support for the ruling party. According to Rathore, the scale of this exercise threatens the fundamental right to vote on a massive, unprecedented level.
The Congress leader further questioned the legal legitimacy of recent changes to the electoral framework, specifically challenging the immunity provisions granted to the Chief Election Commissioner. He urged the Supreme Court to initiate a suo motu inquiry into these allegations, suggesting that the judiciary must intervene to restore public confidence in the electoral process. Rathore also criticized the heavy-handed security measures deployed against opposition protests in New Delhi, labeling the invocation of strict public order laws as an attempt to stifle democratic dissent.
