Rath attributed the momentum to the tireless efforts of party workers and the legacy of Suvendu Adhikari, whose decision to vacate the seat triggered the contest. Adhikari, who previously held two seats in the State Assembly, chose to retain his other constituency, leaving this political stronghold up for grabs.
In the Rejinagar Assembly constituency, the BJP’s Shakaharavh Sarkar holds a lead with 48,101 votes. The Aam Aadmi Unnayan Party’s Golam Nabi Azad follows with 13,600 votes, while candidates from the All India Trinamool Congress, Congress, and CPI(M) remain far behind. This seat became vacant after the resignation of AJUP founder Humayun Kabir.
Beyond West Bengal, the BJP is also making gains in Assam, where Devasish Sharma leads the race for the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat by 316,570 votes. The seat was vacated by Pradyut Bordoloi, who departed Congress to join the BJP and subsequently won the Dispur Assembly constituency. Final results for these contests, along with polls in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, are expected following the conclusion of the counting process this Friday.
