Vaillant steps into the role with two decades of experience in capital markets, having most recently served as Global Head of Finance, Strategy and Participations at BNP Paribas Asset Management. His track record includes orchestrating the €5.1 billion acquisition of AXA Investment Managers, a landmark deal that solidified his reputation for managing complex, large-scale financial structures. World Bank President Ajay Banga highlighted this background as critical for the institution's push to strengthen financial operations and broaden its funding base.

His core mandate involves managing the Group’s treasury, risk oversight, and global bond issuance. This responsibility is substantial; in the 2026 financial year, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Development Association, and the International Finance Corporation raised nearly $82 billion from international markets. Beyond traditional borrowing, Vaillant is expected to innovate new financing vehicles designed to attract private investors at scale, bridging the gap between the Bank’s development mission and global capital liquidity.

Vaillant’s career trajectory spans roles at the Banque de France and extensive advisory work with governments and central banks in emerging markets across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Beyond his corporate duties, he has contributed to academia as an instructor at HEC School of Management and Sciences Po Paris, and serves on the Steering Board of the International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity Credits. He joins the organization with a focus on integrating rigorous risk management with the urgent need for sustainable development funding.
