Delhi Police File 25 Cases Following Recent Capital Protests

Since October 2, Delhi Police have filed approximately 25 criminal cases against demonstrators, targeting individuals for alleged vandalism, assault, and obstruction of government operations. These legal actions stem from widespread violations of prohibitory orders currently enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita across the New Delhi district.

The mounting legal fallout includes high-profile figures, with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra among those named in reports. One specific FIR centers on the unauthorized entry of these leaders and other INDIA bloc MPs into Akashvani Bhavan during a Tuesday demonstration against the Election Commission of India. Police officials assert that the group proceeded with a march from Parliament House toward the commission headquarters without securing required permits.

As tensions persist, authorities remain firm on restricting public assemblies. Deputy Commissioner of Police Shrishti Pandey confirmed that Jantar Mantar and other traditional protest sites remain off-limits while Section 163 stays in effect. With a planned demonstration by the Cockroach Janata Party scheduled for October 10, police have issued a public warning that any unauthorized gathering will face immediate legal consequences.
