BRS and Congress mount pressure on Election Commission over voter lists

Conflict has erupted in Telangana as both the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the Congress party converge on a singular demand: the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Following allegations of widespread voter deletions, political rivals are now mobilizing street protests in Hyderabad to challenge the integrity of the electoral process.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will hold a demonstration outside the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer’s office on October 10. The party alleges that the Special Intensive Revision process resulted in the systematic removal of voters from constituencies held by its legislators. Working President KT Rama Rao has escalated the standoff by calling for a judicial probe led by a Supreme Court judge, insisting that Kumar must step down on moral grounds.

Simultaneously, the Congress party has launched its own campaign, marching to the Raj Bhavan to denounce what it terms the BJP’s interference in constitutional bodies. Congress leader Mettu Sai Kumar accused the ruling party of weaponizing state resources to undermine democratic norms. Meanwhile, Danam Nagender claimed the opposition movement is fighting a perceived theft of public votes, citing recent police confrontations with MPs who attempted to raise these grievances directly with the Election Commission. BRS leadership indicated that after the Hyderabad protest, the agitation will expand to New Delhi.
