Revanth Reddy demands CEC removal over electoral roll revision

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has branded the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls a potential act of mass disenfranchisement, calling for the immediate removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Reddy claims the process threatens to strip voting rights from millions, framing the move as a calculated political survival tactic.

Reddy alleges that the ruling BJP is attempting to manipulate the electorate by targeting marginalized groups, including Dalits, tribals, OBCs, and minorities. He argues that for the first time since 1952, India faces a scenario where the total number of eligible voters could decline despite population growth. The Chief Minister contends that this systematic deletion of names, which he estimates could affect 130 million citizens, serves as a strategy to counter declining support for the Prime Minister. During a protest at Raj Ghat alongside members of the INDIA bloc, Reddy accused the central government of weaponizing agencies like the ED and CBI before resorting to electoral engineering. He warned that if the administration fails to reverse the revision exercise and restore these voting rights, it will face significant public backlash and political obsolescence. The Congress leader emphasized that the issue transcends party lines, characterizing the resistance as a defense of fundamental democratic rights established by figures like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
