INDIA Bloc Targets Election Commission Over Voter Roll Revisions

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy issued a sharp ultimatum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, demanding the immediate rollback of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Speaking outside Raj Ghat, Reddy warned that failure to reverse the policy would force the public to remove the Prime Minister from office.

INDIA Bloc Targets Election Commission Over Voter Roll Revisions

The demonstration marked the third consecutive day of protests by the INDIA bloc, which alleges that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is operating in collusion with the central government to manipulate electoral processes. Congress MP Manickam Tagore accused the Commission of facilitating 'vote chori'—electoral theft—to ensure the current administration remains in power. Opposition leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, gathered at the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi to voice their grievances against what they describe as the systematic hijacking of democratic dissent in India.

Tensions escalated after police detained several opposition members during a protest at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal characterized the ongoing agitation as a fight for the survival of Indian democracy, claiming that the partnership between the executive branch and the Election Commission has rendered the democratic process toothless. While the opposition has yet to formalize its next steps, Gaurav Gogoi urged the Prime Minister to remember his self-proclaimed title of 'Pradhansevak' and heed the growing national outcry against the controversial voter roll adjustments.
