Delhi Shuts Liquor Shops as Political Protests Intensify

Delhi authorities have ordered the closure of all retail liquor shops on October 9 and 10 to maintain public order. The decision follows intelligence from Delhi Police regarding heightened political tensions and upcoming demonstrations organized by the Cockroach Janta Party against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The official circular mandates the shutdown of various licensed retail vends, including forms L6, L8, and L10, as a preventive security measure. This directive coincides with a broader wave of unrest from the INDIA bloc, whose leaders are demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral roll revisions. Recent demonstrations at Jantar Mantar resulted in multiple FIRs against top opposition figures, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, for alleged obstruction of government work and confrontations with police.

Simultaneously, the CJP is mobilizing a youth-led protest at Jantar Mantar for October 10. Spokesperson Saurav Das confirmed that the party has coordinated with police to facilitate the assembly, which aims to highlight concerns over alleged voter exclusion and electoral integrity. As the capital braces for further mobilization, the administration remains focused on preventing potential escalations during this period of intense political friction.
